CAVALIER GRAND OPENING

Alexandra travelled to San Francisco last week for the Grand Opening celebration of Cavalier by Jay Jeffers. The event featured a champagne reception and trunk show of Alexandra Von Furstenberg's accessories collection as well as a retrospective of the work of iconic San Francisco jewelry designers Alex & Lee.

Proprietors Jay Jeffrers and Michael Purdy gave Alexandra a warm reception and the event was well attended by San Francisco's prestigious design community. New York International Gift Fair AUGUST 2012

Attached are photos from our latest show that took place in New York in mid August. Our newest items, the Printed Charm Bowls, Backgammon Attaché, and Tamarind Bowl made their debut to great success. AVF Visits the Big D

Alexandra recently traveled to Dallas, TX to pay a visit to the local home design showrooms and stores. She had fun shopping for her own home, as well as seeing her own designs in several of the Dallas stores that carry the AVF Brand. Dallas did not disappoint. Her trip highlights included a visit to Dahlgren Duck which carries that AVF furniture line as well as the accessories and then to the Highland Park Village where the beautiful store Madison carries AVF. Madison was created and founded by Interior Designers and sisters, Kirsten Fitzbiggons & Kelli Ford of Kirsten Kelli.

So if you're in the Dallas area, and looking to find some AVF products, visit these two great stores, as well as Gary Riggs Interiors also located in Dallas, TX.

Windows to the World

Interior Designer, David Hicks, from Australia, was one of the few international designers selected to be a part of the Legends of La Cienega, Windows to the World event. It's an annual design celebration where different interior designers create store front windows up and down La Cienega Blvd in the Los Angeles Design Quarter.

This year, David chose to use one of Alexandra's most popular designs, the Brilliant Console Table as part of his beautiful design located in the store window of Downtown located on 719 N. La Cienega Blvd.

Congratulations to David Hicks and his amazing creation. We were so proud to be a part of it.

The Stars of Design Awards

March 21st was one of the biggest events of the year in the L.A. design scene: The honoring of the Pacific Design Center's Annual Stars of Design and Stars on the Rise Awards. It's kind of like the Academy Awards of the design industry. The Event was part of WestWeek 2012 and some of Los Angeles' leading professionals in the design industry were honored. The Stars of design Awards honors professionals in the design field in categories including interior design, architecture, graphic design, photography and art. Alexandra Von Furstenberg was honored as a Rising Star in the field of design.

It was such an honor for Alexandra to be recognized for her work especially since Alexandra Von Furstenberg LLC recently celebrated it's fourth anniversary. Being personally selected by Mr. Charles Cohen to be recognized amongst such industry leaders as Waldo Fernandez, Luc Leestemaker and Donna Livingston made that anniversary even more special. Alexandra would like to thank everyone who was involved with the event for making it such a memorable special night.

The AVF Accent Accessory collection was launched in New York at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) back in August 2010, and we have continued to launch our newest and most exciting products there since then.

To celebrate the Grand Opening of their Park Avenue Store, Maison 24 honored special guests Jimmie Martin and “Moi”! It was a very successful and exciting event, of which, I was so honored to be a part of. Especially, because Maison 24 is now the first and only store in New York to carry the AVF line of furniture in their store as well as all of my home accessories.

Maison 24 is also one of my favorite stores. Brother and sister, Allison Julius and Louis Marra founded Maison 24 and opened their first stores in Bridgehampton and the Fire Island Pines with a concept of mixing traditional and trend-setting home furnishings, men’s and womens’ accessories, music, art, decorative objects, books toys and much more.

Going back to NY for me is of course, a lot like returning home as I spent a lot of my earlier days growing up in this vibrant city I once called home. So I took advantage of the opportunity to roam through MoMA on a rainy day and a stroll through Central Park to experience all of it’s glory.

Of course the highlight of my trip was being a guest of honor at Maison 24 where I had the chance to see many of my good friends and family including Diane Von Furstenberg, and artist Stephanie Hirsch, whose Von Fabulous artwork can be seen and purchased at my own flagship store in West Hollywood. THE PINK SWAN PROJECT

Alexandra Von Furstenberg designed this Swan chair as part of the The Pink Swan Project to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Her inspiration:

"My idea for this design was to see how I could transform the original swan chair into an interpretaion of what I do. The Alexandra Von Furstenberg brand is an acrylic based furniture and accessories house. My inspiration was melted taffy, how could I melt plastic on top of the swan chair to look either like draping, melting or molding...et voila a chair in armored plastic. The brand is best known for its neon colors so what better way to support Breast Cancer than by using our pink neon acrylic. ON the back rest of the chair is the lip logo in pink sealing it with a kiss and a white painted leg to streamline the whole look. It was a joy to participate in such a wonderful cause. Thank you.

In her work, she bridges the gap between fashion and art by utilizing beads and embroidery, which give her artwork a three dimensional depth. The metallic sheen of the medium also serves to remind us that the mantras can shine a positive light on our inner struggles both literally and figuratively.

Oscars On Ice

Alexandra Von Furstenberg's Ice Table raises money in support of the Elton John Aids Foundation.

The Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) was created back in 1992, by Sir Elton John himself. The foundation raises money to support innovative HIV prevention programs as well as to combat the negative stigma and discrimiation so often associated with people living with HIV/AIDS. Since its inception the foundation has risen over 220 million dollars supporting projects around the world.

For the past 19 years, to raise money for this noble cause, EJAF has held their Acadamy Awards Viewing Party here in West Hollywood, California. At the party, items are donated by various designers, where they are auctioned off to raise money for the foundation. This year, to show her support of EJAF, Alexandra Von Furstenberg donated one of the prized gems of the AVF Limited Edition Collection, "The ICE Table" which we are proud to say raised $35,000.00 during the live auction.

Thank you to the Elton John Aids Foundation for allowing Alexandra Von Furstenberg, LLC to participate in this year's event. We were honored to be a small part of Sir Elton John's big dream.

New York International Gift Fair Debut

ALEXANDRA VON FURSTENBERG DEBUTS THE ACCENT ACRYLIC ACCESSORY COLLECTION AT NYIGF

With the success of the Fearless Trays and Charm Candy Bowls, Alexandra has expanded her Accessory collection to 5 tabletop items. With the addition of the Treasure Boxes, Grafitti Coasters, and Bloomin Vases, the Accent Collection of tabletop acrylic accessories is now a true collection. And with the debut of Accent, to the Voltage and Fearless lines of acrylic furniture, "AVF" has never been so complete. Like Voltage and Fearless, Accent will be forever growing and evolving. The possiblities are endless and soon there will be new and exciting items added to the collection.

The NYIGF show is held twice a year in New York City's Jakob Javits Center and is one of the most well known and largest shows of it's kind. We went to the show, not knowing exactly what to expect, but the next thing we knew we were taking orders and handing out countless linesheets and information about the collection to prospective buyers, designers, and the media. While at the show, we were even covered by Shelterpop.com who reviewed the show and included AVF in the top 100 booths to see!

AVF to FIDM

Last week, Alexandra went to the campus of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to meet with the Visual Communications students who worked on a David Hick's inspired window display and chose to use an Alexandra Von Furstenberg Acrylic table.

ALEXANDRA'S VISIT TO FIDM

Having once been a student of Fashion and Costume Design at Brown University and Parsons, Alexandra's visit to the beautiful Los Angeles Campus of FIDM was both reminiscent and inspiring for her. The Visual Communications students, under the tutelage of instructor, Ken Donham, created a David Hicks inspired window display using one of Alexandra's own designs, the M-16 Cube End Table. Alexandra met with the students who worked on the project in front of the actual window on the campus, and discussed with them, her own inspirations as well some of her experiences in the world of fashion and design.

The assignment for FIDM Visual Communication students (above), Jolene Pietsch, Stephanie Echegara, Sophie Harris, and Kayleigh Fawcett, was to create a window display with the vibe and style of designer David Hicks.

After the Q&A, Alexandra received a full tour of the Los Angeles Campus and was impressed with both the student's work as well as the beauty of the campus. After the tour, she said, "I'd love to go to school here if I were a young student. What a fabulous campus!"

Coincidentally, Alexandra also works in miniature form before going to full scale. Alexandra takes a final picture with the students in front of the window display that they created for a final assignment. Yes, they all got "A's". Congratulations and thank you to the students and faculty at FIDM.

Alexandra Von Furstenberg values the schools that train the designers of tomorrow and we look forward to working with FiDM in the years to come in hopes of being a small part of that.

Into The Blue

Alexandra Von Furstenberg "goes into the blue" in Tahiti and lives within a world of calm and beautiful blues that inspired her selection of the newest color introduced to her collection of acrylic furniture and home accessories.

INTO THE BLUE

The newest color introduced to the Alexandra Von Furstenberg collection of acryilc furniture is a beautiful calming blue. Drawing color inspiration from the sky and the ocean, Alexandra found the perfect shade of blue acrylic to perfectly represent the blues tha t we've all grown to love and be drawn to.

On her recent trip to Bora Bora, Tahiti, Alexandra was able to live in a world surrounded by these gorgeous, clear, and sparkling blues and turquoises.

"In Tahiti, you can't help but get entranced by it's natural beauty of COLOR. This is the rainbow I woke up to that reminded me of the rainbow of colors that are in my new acrylic coasters". To see more about the tables in blue, click here to view the Fearless Collection.

AVF GOES BACK TO SCHOOL AND BACK IN TIME AT FIDM

Alexandra Von Furstenberg loves to support the Arts, and this often means supporting students who are studying a field that will take them into a visually artistic field. Recently, Alexandra loaned one of her acrylic tables to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising's students who were working on a window display project.

The assignment for FIDM Visual Communication students, Jolene Pietsch, Stephanie Echegara, Sophie Harris, and Kayleigh Fawcett, was to create a window display with the vibe and style of designer David Hicks.

They chose to use AVF's M-16 Acrylic End Table to exemplify that feeling of retro modern. Alexandra was excited to be a small part of this because David is one of her personal favorite interior designers. He is world renowned, highly published and his designs have become iconic of the classic, sophisticated and modern 1970's chic interiors that are making a huge comeback today. With graphic and geometric wallpapers and sharp clean lines, David had the foresight and ability to blend those modern elements masterfully within an antique Baroque or Neo Classical styled setting. This style is without doubt, one that has inspired many current Interior Designers who's work gravitate towards the "Hollywood Regency" aesthetic which is so popular today.

The final project that the FIDM students accomplished, under the supervision of instructor and industry professional, Ken Donham, is currently on display throughout the month of July at the FIDM Downtown Los Angeles Campus. AVF was proud to be a part of this, and so pleased with the results of their project. Their vision of a young Manhattan couple, having a cocktail at home before heading out to Studio 54 for a night of dancing in their fabulous outfits was captured perfectly.
